SEO/SEM
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) refers to how a website is designed and engineered in relation to its ranking in search engines.
SEM (Search Engine Marketing) expands upon SEO to include pay-per-click (or PPC) and paid ads in search engines to increase rankings and attract traffic.
Things you should know:
• Organic, or natural, SEO typically refers to a website that is engineered to achieve high search engine ranking without using PPC.
• According to a recent study, 63% of all internet searches are conducted via Google, followed by Yahoo at 21%.*
• More and more people turn to the internet, more specifically, to Google, as their first step in finding information on a particular product or service they are interested in.
• Right on Google's home page you can click on 'Business Solutions' to go to a page that has more information on AdWords, their PPC product. From the AdWords page, there are more options at the bottom under Related Programs which leads to even more great products. Once you learn about the many resources Google offers to help your website, you realize, as I have, at how powerful Google truly is in determining the amount of traffic to your site.
• It is critical to understand which keywords are used to find businesses like yours in search engines. Effectively incorporating these keywords in your website will increase the chances of higher ranking in search results. It needs to be said, however, that there are many factors and techniques in the proper use of keywords that hopefully your web designer and programmer are well versed at.
• There are so many factors involved in achieving first page rankings (getting on the first page of a Google search), that any company that guarantees this for your site is probably more interested in taking your money than in telling the truth.
• Doing your homework and developing a solid SEO strategy can truly provide qualified leads for your business.
